What a weekend for the Franklin Graham Festival

Just in case you have ever wondered how these huge events are “pulled off.”  I have “pasted” below a schedule of the volunteer drivers whom I was privileged to work with this past weekend.  Now keep in mind we drivers were a very small (but critical) part of the volunteers needed to make this event successful.

There were hundreds of other local volunteers from ushers, choir members, security, counselors, etc.

I am not sure what the final number of “salvations” was but I feel confident in saying that it was well over 900.

Although I am not naive enough to think that ALL those who came forward to receive Christ were “true conversions”, I am confident in saying that something happened in each and every one of them… and us too!

I forget what the “scale” is referred to but, imagine if a person was a “negative ten” and “zero” was a true conversion; if a person is moved to a “negative eight” then they are that much closer to a true experience with the Savior.

When I picked up Adam of Group 1 Crew we were chatting on our way to the Embassy Suites.  Adam asked me what my favorite music was.  I told him that I liked pretty much all music… except I wasn’t very fond of Hip Hop.  He told me that he didn’t care much for the Gangster Rap style of Hip Hop but that he does enjoy the music of Hip Hop.  I later found out that Group 1 Crew is a Christian Hip Hop band!  lol  We all got a kick out of that later at lunch.  Adam and the gang took a couple of pics with me and said they were going to put them on their MySpace page.  I guess I will have to figure out how to look them up.

I guess I spent most of my (individual) time taking the Kirk Franklin band to dinner.  Kirk and the girls weren’t able to make it but I took the other six guys out to Chili’s.  It was an absolute blast.

One lady that looked to be in her early thirties came up during dinner, excused her self and told the guys that eight years ago before she was saved she was driving to work and channel surfing when she heard them on the radio.  She liked the song and if it weren’t for their music that day she may not have given her life to the Lord.

Still later during dinner these two little girls (about eleven or twelve) came up all gushing and asked if they were on stage with Kirk Franklin earlier.  They thought they recognised them and they were awesome, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Girls, sigh. lol

The Franklin Gram people were absolutely the consummate professionals and a joy to work with.  Even when airlines messed (as they are known to do) they knew exactly how to handle everything.

I was surprised that every day before the bands sound checks the coppers would bring in their bomb sniffing dog for a sniff around the platform area.

Any way here was the schedule of bands coming in. (in addition to this posted schedule me and Chad and Dan worked until about two Monday afternoon returning all of the rented vehicles.)  I slept really good Monday night. lol

  1. Oh. My. God. That schedule is CRAZY.

“Although I am not naive enough to think that ALL those who came forward to receive Christ were “true conversions”

Just curious…why not? Why else would they come forward?

  2. mssc54 says:

Hayden; Yeh, did y ou notice the go to guy. I really did enjoy it though.

Statistically speaking, a certain percentage of those who “made the confession” did so more out of peer pressure or wanting to be a part of something larger than themself.

However, those same people may have just had the hard “outer surface” of resistance to the Gosple knocked off. Thereby making it easier for the next person.

As the Apostle Paul said, some sow, some water and some harvest.

I think that it is rare when the conversion is 100% at one time.

  3. DM says:

thanks for the updates and stopping by the blog today…always good to hear from you.! DM

  4. mssc54 says:

Back at ya DM. Man all that concrete to stand on all day… and night. Heck I even had to go see my chiropracter after my early Monday morning run. Nothing like a nice crack! 🙂

  5. Joy says:

Holy cow, what a schedule!!! I’m glad you had a good time and things were successful.
